Berry Puff Twists are delightful, flaky pastries made from buttery puff pastry filled with sweet mixed berry preserves. These easy-to-make treats are twisted into spirals, brushed with a vanilla-butter glaze, and baked until golden and crispy, perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry and Filling

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup mixed berry preserves

Glaze and Topping

  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Prep Pastry: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry to smooth out any creases and achieve an even thickness.
  2. Add Filling: Spread the mixed berry preserves evenly over the puff pastry sheet, making sure to leave a 1-inch border all around. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter and vanilla extract, then brush this mixture evenly over the preserves to add flavor and moisture.
  3. Cut and Twist: Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into 8 equal strips. Carefully lift each strip and twist it several times to create a spiral shape. Arrange the twisted strips neatly on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each to allow puffing.
  4. Brush and Sugar: Brush each twist generously with the beaten egg wash to promote a golden, glossy finish. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top of each twist to add a sweet, caramelized crust when baked.
  5. Bake: Bake the twists in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes until they are puffed up, golden brown, and crispy. The sugar on top will caramelize and create a crunchy texture. Once done, remove from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is properly thawed but still cold for easier handling and better puff.
  • You can substitute mixed berry preserves with raspberry, strawberry, or your favorite jam.
  • For an extra touch, drizzle with a light glaze made from powdered sugar and lemon juice after baking.
  • Serve warm for the best texture and flavor experience.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat briefly in the oven to retain crispness.
