Mascarpone Cream
- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream (360 ml)
- 8 ounce container mascarpone cheese, room temperature (225 g)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (67 g)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 ml)
Soaking Liquid
- 1 1/2 cups cold espresso, prepared (360 ml)
- 3 Tablespoons coffee flavored liqueur (optional) (45 ml) (Kahlua or DaVinci brands)
Additional Ingredients
- 1 package Lady Fingers (Savoiardi brand recommended)
- Cocoa powder for dusting the top
- Prepare the Mascarpone Cream: Add the heavy whipping cream to a mixing bowl and beat on medium speed using electric mixers or a stand mixer. Slowly add the granulated sugar and vanilla extract while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until the mixture is smooth and fully combined. Set aside.
- Dip the Lady Fingers: In a shallow bowl, combine the cold espresso and coffee-flavored liqueur, if using. Quickly dip each lady finger into the coffee mixture on both sides, taking care not to soak them fully—just enough to get them wet.
- Assemble the First Layer: Arrange a single layer of the dipped lady fingers across the bottom of an 8×8-inch or similarly sized pan.
- Add the Mascarpone Layer: Smooth half of the mascarpone cream mixture evenly over the first layer of lady fingers.
- Build the Second Layer: Repeat the dipping process and lay another layer of lady fingers on top of the mascarpone cream. Then, spread the remaining mascarpone cream over this second layer.
- Dust with Cocoa Powder and Chill: Generously dust the top with cocoa powder using a fine mesh strainer for an even layer. Refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 3 to 4 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set before serving.
Notes
- Do not soak lady fingers too long to avoid sogginess; a quick dip is sufficient.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the coffee liqueur or substitute with additional espresso.
- Ensure mascarpone cheese is at room temperature for easier folding and a smoother cream.
- Tiramisu tastes best after chilling overnight, as this enhances the melding of flavors.
- Use a fine mesh strainer for the cocoa powder to avoid clumps on top.
