Ingredients

Scale

Primary Ingredients

  • 1 (16-ounce) package frozen potato and cheese pierogi
  • 14 ounces kielbasa sausage, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Flavorings

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté aromatics: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter. Add the finely chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 4–5 minutes. Then add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds to release the flavors.
  3. Arrange pierogi and kielbasa: Place the frozen potato and cheese pierogi evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Scatter the sliced kielbasa rounds evenly over the pierogi.
  4. Make sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the sour cream, milk, the remaining melted butter, ground black pepper, and smoked paprika until the mixture is smooth. Stir in half of the shredded sharp cheddar cheese to incorporate it evenly.
  5. Combine and bake: Pour the sour cream and cheese mixture evenly over the pierogi and kielbasa in the baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese on top. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  6. Bake covered: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the ingredients to heat through.
  7. Bake uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10–15 minutes until the cheese on top is melted, golden, and bubbly.
  8. Cool and garnish: Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving to add a pop of color and freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute kielbasa with any smoked sausage of your choice.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the sauce mixture.
  • For a crispier top, broil the bake for 2-3 minutes at the end, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
