For the Tacos
- 4 flour tortillas (6 inches)
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
- 4 slices American cheese (or preferred cheese)
Toppings
- 1 small onion, diced
- Dill pickle chips
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
- Divide the beef: Separate the 1 pound of ground beef into 4 equal portions to evenly distribute meat for each taco.
- Shape on tortillas: Spread each beef portion thinly over each flour tortilla, seasoning with salt and pepper for flavor. Ensure the beef covers most of the tortilla surface.
- Heat skillet: Warm a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat with the tablespoon of neutral oil to prevent sticking and to get a nice sear.
- Cook meat side down: Place the tortillas meat-side down on the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the beef is golden and fully cooked on the bottom.
- Add cheese and finish: Flip the tortilla so the meat side is now facing up. Immediately add a slice of cheese on the meat and cook for another 1-3 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Repeat for remaining tacos: Remove cooked tacos from the skillet and repeat the cooking process for the remaining portions.
- Assemble toppings: Top each cheesy taco with diced onion, dill pickle chips, and shredded iceberg lettuce for added crunch and flavor.
Notes
- You can substitute the flour tortillas with corn tortillas for a different texture.
- Use your favorite cheese like cheddar or pepper jack if American cheese is not preferred.
- Add a sauce like mayonnaise, ketchup, or mustard to enhance flavor.
- For a spicier option, include jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
- Ensure your skillet is hot enough to get a good sear but not so hot that it burns the tortilla.
