Spinach Ball Ingredients

  • 3 eggs (beaten)
  • 10 ounces frozen chopped spinach (thawed and drained well, 283 grams)
  • 6 tablespoons butter (melted, 84.75 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian seasoned breadcrumbs (168 grams)
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese (grated, 100 grams)
  • 1/2 yellow onion (diced very small)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius). Grease a baking sheet to prevent the spinach balls from sticking and set it aside.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the beaten eggs, thawed and drained spinach, melted butter, garlic powder, black pepper, ground thyme, salt, Italian seasoned breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and finely diced yellow onion. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Form Balls: Using a 1 1/2 tablespoon cookie scoop or a spoon, scoop out the mixture and roll into 1-inch diameter balls. Place each ball on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly apart.
  4. Bake: Bake the spinach balls in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until they turn golden brown and are cooked through. Remove from the oven once done.
  5. Serve: Serve the spinach balls warm as an appetizer or side dish. Enjoy their crispy exterior and flavorful, tender inside.

Notes

  • Drain spinach very well to avoid excess moisture and to help the balls hold their shape better.
  • Italian seasoned breadcrumbs add extra flavor, but plain breadcrumbs can be used with added Italian herbs if desired.
  • If you prefer a crispier exterior, you can broil the spinach balls for an additional 2-3 minutes after baking.
  • These spinach balls can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute Italian seasoned breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs.
